About Patient Choice Insights

Patient Choice Insights is an innovative health care program that helps you better understand the wide variations that exist in the cost and quality of health care. The program features a unique open access health care network whereby providers are analyzed on cost and performance measures, then placed into three tiers.
You are free to see any provider in the Patient Choice Insights network—primary care physicians, specialists, hospitals, and other health care professionals and facilities—in any tier, without a referral. In general, you receive a higher (or better) level of in-network benefits when you obtain care from a participating provider that is in a lower tier (that is, tier 1 or tier 2).
To help you take control of your health care decisions and maximize your health care dollars we offer a variety of comparative information and online tools. In addition, the program includes many other features such as easy access to care, wide choice of providers, and more.
Here’s how it works
- You enroll in a plan that offers the Patient Choice Insights network
- You receive an ID card with the Patient Choice Insights logo.
- You access services from network providers to be eligible for in-network benefits.
- You generally receive a higher (or better) level of benefits when you obtain services from a provider who is in a lower tier.
- You can access a variety of tools and resources to support informed decision-making.

With Patient Choice, you can choose your physician and hospitals based on factors that are important to you. We offer a wealth of resources and tools to help you better understand and evaluate health care quality including:

use this insightful resource to compare the cost and quality of health care facilities. You'll find questions you should ask when choosing to have a procedure and a list of important resources to use when weighing your options.
The guide also features a unique Facility Pricing Catalog that allows you to compare facility pricing information for a variety of services at several network facilities. Using this information you can see the differences that exist among your choices and better manage your health care dollars.
Compare prices on a variety of services
- HowWasYourCare - allows you to rate the care and service your doctor provides and to see how other patients rated their doctors. The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and allows you to rate how easy it is to schedule urgent appointments, how friendly you think your doctor’s office staff is, whether your physician spends an appropriate amount of time with you, and other aspects of your doctor’s care and service.

gives you the ability to quickly and easily compare hospitals on a variety of performance measures. In just minutes, you can discover a facility’s experience with treating certain conditions, how many patients had complications, mortality rates, the cost and more.
